Specifications include, but are not limited to: To provide for the 2023 growing season, on‐farm nitrogen trial execution is to identify, design, and execute scientifically robust on‐farm small plot nitrogen rate trials on Iowa corn fields for crop year 2023 according to specifications identified by Iowa Nitrogen Initiative personnel to produce data in pursuit of research objectives. Expected work will include: Identifying farmer cooperators to conduct up to 100 trials (up to two per field) Communicating with farmers and/or their advisers and Iowa Nitrogen Initiative personnel to obtain relevant data (e.g., field boundaries, equipment size, application schedule) to design a nitrogen rate trial executed via variable rate nitrogen fertilizer application Coding a variable rate nitrogen fertilizer prescription compatible with the farmer’s equipment; supplying prescription to the farmer Obtaining as‐applied nitrogen data, harvest yield data, and ancillary information (e.g., hybrid, plant data, soil management, etc.) and sharing with Iowa Nitrogen Initiative personnel in a timely manner for analysis Sharing a post‐harvest analysis report with farmer cooperators Issuing farmer cooperators a yield‐loss payment of $600 if they include a zero‐ rate nitrogen replication in their trial
