The Iowa Board of Pharmacy, through the Iowa Department of Administrative Services, is seeking qualified Respondents capable of providing continued medication collection and disposal services to participating pharmacies, assisting participating pharmacies that have medication collection units for non-controlled substances only with the transition to installing a DEA-compliant permanent receptacle for the collection of controlled substances, and educating pharmacies and the public about medication collection and disposal services. Currently, approximately 550 pharmacies participate in the Iowa medication collection and disposal program, of which approximately 150 pharmacies have DEA-compliant permanent receptacles with replaceable liners to collect all over-the counter and prescription medications, including controlled substances. Approximately 400 pharmacies have medication collection units for non-controlled substances only. There are also non-participating pharmacies who self-funded the installation of a DEA-compliant permanent receptacle, some of whom may wish to participate in the Iowa medication collection and disposal program by receiving Board-funded replaceable liners and disposal services.
