The Springbrook Water Reclamation Center (SWRC) treats the wastewater of the City Naperville, and City of Warrenville, a combined 164,000 people. The Grit and RAS Improvements project will replace systems installed when the South Plant was constructed in 1999. The current expansion will provide for the installation of Return Activated Sludge and Grit Improvements to SWRC’s south plant. The existing aerated grit removal process is original to the initial plant construction and allows a large amount of grit to pass through the treatment process, causing problems with downstream equipment and does not provide for automatic removal and classification. A new vortex-type grit removal system will be designed along with a grit washer classifier. The new grit system will be sized to accommodate both existing conditions as well as future conditions. Also included in the project is the replacement of the return activated sludge pumping system to further support expansion at the south plant of SWRC.
