Specifications include, but are not limited to: 1.2.1 Age: one (1) to three (3) years old 1.2.2 Breed: German Shepherd, Belgium Malinois or Dutch Shepherd 1.2.3 Gender: primarily male dogs preferred by law enforcement agencies; governmental units will specify male or female according to needs 1.2.4 Weight: minimum of 50 pounds to a maximum of 90 pounds 1.2.5 Display the ability to be trained as a dual-purpose canine 1.2.5.1 Shall be aggressive, completing tracking, take-downs and searches 1.2.5.2 Shall be trained to smell narcotics, bombs or vapor wake 1.2.6 Shall not exhibit sensitivity or fear when in enclosed buildings with slick floors, dark rooms, stairs, loud noises or other distracting features 1.2.7 Shall not be jumpy, shy, afraid and/or nervous around people, show aggression toward handler or be unable to work around people 1.2.8 Shall display good hunt and prey drive during retrieval exercise 1.2.9 Shall hunt unassisted for a thrown toy, out of sight for a period of time in excess of two (2) minutes 1.2.10 Shall display adequate amount of excitement once a toy is located 1.2.11 Shall not show adverse reactions to riding in a motor vehicle 1.2.12 Shall display civil aggression and display a good, sure, full mouth apprehension on an exposed bite sleeve or other bite equipment 1.2.13 Shall display both prey and defensive drives and make an apprehension under gunfire 1.2.14 Shall complete apprehensions in both interior and exterior locations
