Specifications include, but are not limited to: new stand-alone building on the UIC East Campus. The site is at the southeast corner of Taylor Street and Morgan Street on the north side of Parking Lot 5. The existing site is a flat parking lot. There are no existing buildings on the site. The base building design is approximately 50,500 SF with two (2) add-alternate additions which would bring the total area of the building to approximately 57,500 SF. The building includes spaces for students, researchers, and faculty: a high-bay structural testing lab for the Civil and Materials Engineering (CME) Department, research laboratories and offices for the Chemical Engineering (CE) Department, research laboratories and offices for the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (MIE) Department, research laboratories/computational labs and offices assigned to the Dean of the College as flexible space, and general building functional spaces. The project has a USGBC LEED (version 2009) goal of Gold level certification.
