The scope of work provides for completely replacing the existing boardwalk/floating trail with a new floating trail and upgrading the existing paths and sidewalks throughout the site. The work also includes replacing the observation platform for the "Eye of the Bog" scenic overlook, as well as intermittent observation platforms along the trail and throughout the site. The site drainage system and structures should be improved to allow control of water runoff in order to mimic natural conditions and maintain hydraulic stability. The Illinois Nature Preserves Commission and any other relevant regulatory agencies should be included in all phases of work. The following items shall be included in the scope of work: - Have environmental subject matter experts evaluate and plan to protect the endangered plant and animal species that could be impacted by the proposed construction. - Remove all portions of the existing trail (remove below surface structures to a depth allowing floating sections to remain buoyant). - Install new floating dock trail sections in current trail path. No work will be allowed outside of the existing path line. - Dock sections should be made accessible as possible (per the current Illinois Accessibility Code), considering the environmental factors of the site. - Provide new sidewalks throughout the site and improve unpaved paths. Sidewalks should be ADA accessible, and paths should be made accessible as possible (per the current Illinois Accessibility Code), considering the environmental factors of the site. - Install water level control gates and associated piping. - Repair/reshape levees. -Replace existing clay pipe w/HDPE piping and reroute as necessary. - Replace failed beaver baffle and associated pipe.
