Specifications include, but are not limited to: This project generally includes broadcasting native seed and performing prescribed burning and invasive species treatments at Prairie Bluff Preserve. NATIVE SEED A. Genotype. Contractor shall provide native seed specified in the seed lists in Tables 1-3. The seed’s parent genotype must come from the Northeastern Morainal Division, Morainal Section,1 or within a 250 mile radius of Will County. All seed shall be supplied as Pure Live Seed. B. Species Substitutions. Any species substitutions must receive prior approval from the Forest Preserve representative. 3.0 EXECUTION 3.1 SEEDING Native seed shall be uniformly broadcast atop the ground in the areas designated on Exhibits A and B using a broadcast seeder with an internal agitator. The native seed shall be evenly mixed with unbroken rice hulls at a rate of 10 pounds of rice hulls per acre to promote the even flow of seed through the seeder. Prior to being broadcast, the native seed and rice hulls shall be mixed together using a clean concrete mixer. Seed shall be sown between December 1st 2022 and March 1st 2023. The Forest Preserve representative must be notified two business days before seeding activities. Seeding shall be done when wind speeds are less than 8 mph. Seeding must be done under dry or frozen ground conditions, ideally when snow cover is present. No standing water or ice may be present in the seeding area. 3.2 SEEDING LAYOUT The Forest Preserve will provide the Contractor with a shared map via the ArcGIS Collector/Field Maps app with the seeding zones. The Contractor must have an ArcGIS organizational account to be able to access the map, and shall use smart phones or other GPS-capable devices to broadcast seed within the designated areas.
