All services and activities performed under the terms of this contract must meet or exceed United States Department of Energy (DOE) and Laboratory orders and requirements. According to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Order 473.3, Protection Program Operations, Attachment 3, Section A, Chapter II Security Areas, Paragraph 3 Property Protection Areas, Sub-Paragraph a. General Requirements: The requirements for PPAs must be configured to protect Government owned property and equipment against damage, destruction, or theft and must provide a means to control public access. Protection may include physical barriers, access control systems, biometric systems, protective personnel, or persons assigned administrative or other authorized security duties, IDS, locks, and keys, etc.
The Department of Energy authorized the Security, Travel and Emergency Services Division (STE) for installation of external door access controls. These controls allow doors to be quickly and remotely locked in the event of a security incident, while protecting staff, government property and assets. The initial overall goal is to get 80% of Argonne’s population behind access controls.
