Specifications include, but are not limited to:. Age: one (1) to three (3) years old Breed: German Shepherd, Belgium Malinois or Dutch Shepherd Gender: primarily male dogs preferred by law enforcement agencies; governmental units will specify male or female according to needs Weight: minimum of 50 pounds to a maximum of 90 pounds The Canine shall display the following abilities: Ability to be trained for guarding or detecting purposes Shall not exhibit sensitivity or fear when in enclosed buildings with slick floors, dark rooms, stairs, loud noises, or other distracting features Shall not be jumpy, shy, afraid, nervous around people, show aggression toward handler or be unable to work around people Shall display good hunt and prey drive during retrieval exercise Shall hunt unassisted for a thrown toy, out of sight for a period more than two (2) minutes Shall display adequate amount of excitement once a toy is located Shall not show adverse reactions to riding in a motor vehicle Shall display civil aggression and display a good, sure, full mouth apprehension on an exposed bite sleeve or other bite equipment Shall display both prey and defensive drives and make an apprehension under gunfire Shall complete apprehensions in both interior and exterior locations For procurements conducted in BidBuy, the State may include in this contract the BidBuy Purchase Order as it contains the agreed Supplies and/or Services. . 1.5.1. Vendor will make available, upon request, records from the trainers involved in the completion of basic puppy training/environmental socialization training. 1.5.2 Vendor will provide the opportunity for the governmental unit canine handlers to visually inspect the facility as well as physically and visually test all candidate canines prior to purchase. 1.5.3 Vendor will reimburse the governmental unit for any veterinary expenses incurred during fitness-for-duty examinations when a canine is found to have a pre-existing medical condition which would cause the canine to be unfit for duty. This includes, but is not limited to: • Prostate issues • Cryptorchidism • Degraded cartilage • Bone/Joint issues • Elbow/Hip dysplasia • Shoulder/Stifle osteochondritis
