The City of Wheaton is seeking bids from certified Contractors to provide Fire Hydrant Sandblasting & Painting to an approximate total of 750 fire hydrants (at 250 hydrants per year) over the next three (3) years. COATING SYSTEM: Surface Preparation: Abrasive blast clean all surfaces to remove all rust, mil scale and existing paint in accordance with SSPC SP-6 for steel or National Associations of Pipe Fabricators, NAPF 500-03-04/05 Abrasive Blast Cleaning for Ductile Iron Pipe and Fittings. Prime Coat: Before any rusting occurs and within four hours of sandblasting apply one spray coating of primer to all surfaces to achieve a dry film thickness pursuant to the manufacturer’s specifications for complete coverage. Finish Coats: After prime coat application is dry, apply two (2) spray coatings of finish paint material within 24 to 48 hours after primer application on each fire hydrant to achieve a dry film thickness pursuant to the manufacturer’s specification for complete coverage. Color: Finish coats shall be Safety Yellow.
