SIDEWALK REMOVAL Description. This work shall be done in accordance with Section 440 of the Standard Specifications, with the following modifications: The Contractor shall saw cut full-depth the limits of all sidewalk removal. The cost to saw cut the sidewalk shall be included in the cost of this item. Any excavation, tree root pruning and removal, bituminous sidewalk removal, or bituminous overlay required to reach the subgrade of the proposed sidewalk of the type and thickness specified will not be paid for separately but shall be included in the cost of this item. Measurement and Basis of Payment. This work shall be paid for at the contract unit price per SQUARE FOOT for SIDEWALK REMOVAL. PORTLAND CEMENT CONCRETE SIDEWALK, OF THE DEPTH SPECIFIED Description. This work shall consist of constructing Portland cement concrete (PCC) sidewalk, of the thickness specified, on an aggregate base in accordance with Sections 351 and 424 of the Standard Specifications, with the following modifications: Included in this work shall be the installation and compaction of a 2 in. aggregate base course, type b on a prepared sub-grade. The aggregate base course and preparation of the sub-grade will not be measured for payment separately but shall be included in the cost of this item. Replacement of sidewalk shall be of the width as shown on the plans or as directed by the Engineer. When constructing PCC sidewalk through a residential driveway the thickness of the PPC sidewalk shall be 6” and when constructing PCC sidewalk through a commercial driveway the thickness of the PCC sidewalk shall be 8”, regardless of the actual thickness called off by the plan pay item. This additional thickness shall be included in the cost of this pay item. Placement of PCC sidewalk shall include the ¾ in. scoring of contraction joints 5 ft. on center. Scoring of contraction joints is included in the cost of this item. Where a domestic water service valve box (b-box) exists in the limits of new sidewalk, the Contractor shall adjust the b-box to grade and surround the box with plastic pipe of a length sufficient to extend the full depth of the proposed sidewalk. Expansion joint material around bboxes shall be installed in a 1-foot square with the b-box located at the center of the square. The expansion joint material shall extend the full depth of the sidewalk in which it is being installed. This work shall be included in the cost of this item. Preformed expansion joint filler of ½” thickness shall be placed in a square around all structures which extend through the sidewalk, including, but not limited to, utility manholes. The expansion joint shall be placed so that no point is closer than 1-foot to the frame of the structure. This work shall be included in the cost of this item. Measurement and Basis of Payment. This work shall be paid for at the contract unit price per SQUARE FOOT for PORTLAND CEMENT CONCRETE SIDEWALK OF THE DEPTH SPECIFIED. COMBINATION CONCRETE CURB AND GUTTER REMOVAL Description. This work shall consist of the removal of combination curb and gutter of any size and type as shown on the plans or as directed by the Engineer. This work shall be done in accordance with Sections 440 of the Standard Specifications, with the following modifications: The Contractor shall saw cut full-depth the limits of all curb and gutter removal. The cost to saw cut the sidewalk shall be included in the cost of this item. Also included in the curb and gutter removal is the saw cutting of the asphalt pavement six inches (6”) in front of the curb to allow for the use of wood forms when framing for the curb. The saw cutting of the pavement as well as the cost to remove and dispose of the material shall be included in the cost of this item. Measurement and Basis of Payment. This item will be paid for at the contract unit price per FOOT for COMBINATION CONCRETE CURB AND GUTTER REMOVAL COMBINATION CONCRETE CURB AND GUTTER, TYPE B-6.12 Description. This work shall consist of constructing combination curb and gutter of the size and type specified on a prepared aggregate base as shown on the plans or as directed by the Engineer. This work shall be done in accordance with Sections 351 and 606 of the Standard Specifications, with the following modifications: The intent of this item is to use it for replacement to the curb and gutter as a result of damage caused by sidewalk improvements or other work within the project limits. The specific locations will be provided during construction, after the bid opening, and shall be limited to the project area indicated on the plans. Combination concrete curb and gutter shall be constructed on a prepared aggregate base of mechanically compacted crushed aggregate of CA-6 gradation having a minimum compacted thickness of 2 in. This work will not be paid for separately but shall be included in the cost of this item. Wood forms shall be used. Forms constructed of steel or Masonite will not be permitted. Forms for radius sections of the combination concrete curb and gutter shall be constructed of 1 in. thick wood boards.
