The scope of work provides for constructing a Chiller Plant at Southern Illinois University's Carbondale campus near the Neckers Building and connecting the plant to the existing campus chilled water loop. The plant will include one water-cooled centrifugal chiller and associated cooling tower, with the flexibility to add up to two additional chillers and cooling towers as funding allows. This Chiller Plant shall be of similar design and construction as the new Chiller Plant being constructed at the Communications Building. The work shall also include removing two stoker coal boilers in the Power Plant and replacing with one or two gasfired packaged boilers, as funding allows, featuring dual-fuel technology, including the installation of fuel storage tank(s) appropriately sized for the number of boilers installed, new feed-water pumps, and a deaerator system. Outdated infrastructure shall be demolished as part of the work, as funding allows, including the old incinerator building and bag-house structures. The existing smokestack shall remain.
