1. Prior to conducting the Assessment Center, meet with the Fire Chief, City Manager and Human Resources Manager to understand the demographics and needs of the Fire Department and the desired Assessment Center exercises. 2. With City Staff, identify any other interested parties that should be included in the assessment, including Fire Chiefs in the region that regularly work with the Sterling Fire Department or possess significant experience in Fire Department Administration 3. Develop an Assessment Center that will contain 5 or more assessment exercises to assess the following skills: • Oral and Written Communication • Conflict Resolution • Incident Command Systems • Judgement/Decisiveness • Problem Solving • Planning and Organization • Knowledge and Experience • Leadership Skills • Media Interaction • Teamwork Skills • Mentoring and Developing Staff 4. Meet with the candidates to explain the Assessment Center. 5. Conduct the Assessment Center at Sterling City Hall. 6. Prepare a recommendation to the Fire Chief, City Manager and Human Resources Manager based on the results of the Assessment Center.
