3.1 Surface Preparation 3.1.1. The existing bathhouse floor will need to be properly prepared. Mechanically scour the cove bases and flooring surfaces to create a roughed-up finish to help the new floor coating adhere to the old surface. 3.1.2. Thoroughly sweep and vacuum floor surfaces to remove all debris particles. 3.1.3. Where necessary, make repairs to weakened areas with a mechanical grinder. Cut out cracked concrete areas and fill utilizing an epoxy patching compound. 3.1.4. Make sure the surface is ready to receive the new flooring application in that all areas are clean, dry, and free of dust, dirt, and other incompatible contaminants. 3.2. New Flooring Application 3.2.1. The completed floor will consist of color quartz aggregate granules embedded in a clear epoxy mastic. 3.2.2. Apply each component of the resinous flooring system according to the manufacturer’s directions. 3.2.3. Apply a two-part epoxy penetrating primer to the cove bases and flooring surfaces at the manufacturer’s recommended spreading rate. 3.2.4. Over the freshly applied primer, apply an epoxy adhesion coat. Broadcast on the quartz aggregate in two applications following the manufacturer’s recommendations. Scrape off and vacuum up any excess aggregate after each broadcast application. 3.2.5. Once the aggregate topping has cured sufficiently, apply coats of clear resin to fill and seal the aggregate. Comply with the manufacturer’s recommendations regarding the number of coats required and spreading rates. 3.2.6. Clean the new flooring system just prior to the final inspection using cleaning materials and procedures recommended by the manufacturer. 3.2.7. Products which may be used include, but are not limited to the following manufacturers: • Dex-O-Tex • Dudick • Duraamen • Crown Polymers 3.2.8. The aggregate color will be selected after the project has been awarded and manufacturer product has been determined. A single color will be utilized for the entire flooring surface. The contractor will provide color sample sets. 3.2.9. A pre-installation site meeting will be scheduled after the project has been awarded to review conditions and installation methods.
