Specifications include, but are not limited to: The work shall generally consist of constructing a 95-foot-long sand bag groin, to be located at the waterline 140 feet west of the existing Kuhio Beach Park west groin. The groin would have a crest elevation of +3.5 feet msl, and a toe elevation of -2.8 feet. The groin would be constructed of 68 2.5 cubic meter sand-filled geotextile containers, each weighing approximately 12,000 lbs, which will provide a stable structure for the project site wave conditions. The geotextile containers will require 225 cy of sand to fill, which will be obtained from an inland source of carbonate sand. Following construction of the groin, approximately 750 cy of beach sand will be placed between the existing Kuhio Beach west groin and the new ElcoRock groin to fill the cell between the groins to its design shape. The sand fill will be obtained by borrowing sand from the nearby Kuhio Beach Diamond Head (east) basin beach face, from the +5-foot msl beach crest to the -1-foot beach toe, trucking the sand to the placement site, and placing the sand along the beach face.
