Specifications include, but are not limited to: a.Determine if tracker dogs can detect rosy wolf snails, and Jackson’s Chameleons, by attempting to train dogs on these two targets. b.Identify the best target material for each species i.e. scat, slim, shells, eggs, actual animal, etc. c.Design and conduct replicate experimental trails in forested areas adjacent to predator-proof fences where predators are known to occur. Quantify search efficiency by measuring target species, by age class (eggs, small, medium, or large), detected per unit effort (i.e. number of target species detected by handler and dog team/unit time). Age class needs to be recorded so as to determine the specific efficiency by size. Small rosy wolf snails and Jackson’s chameleons are the most challenging for field staff to detect. These data will allow us to compare dog searches to manual searches conducted by field crews. It would also be possible for field crews to search alongside dogs at the same time to compare efficiency.
