Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism (DBEDT) is requesting proposals for a survey and a report based on the survey results regarding the State of Hawaii’s digital economy. Digital connectivity has become the backbone of the global economy. As broadband access and speeds have increased, new opportunities have arisen for both consumers and businesses. In order to understand the digital economy, a framework was needed to define and quantify it. The Bureau of Economic Analysis developed a framework that included three sectors: priced digital services, infrastructure, and e-commerce.1 However, in addition to the federal level, there is a need for states to understand their own local digital economies. The purpose of this study is to analyze how businesses utilize and participate in the digital economy including operations, business to consumer markets, and business to business markets. The objectives of the project are the following: 1. To collect data regarding the practice of digital economy by Hawaii businesses; 2. To document the characteristics of the labor force and capital usage for digital economy by industry; and 3. To analyze the impact of the digital economy on workforce development, environment, office space demand, and other resources demand.
