The Department of Agriculture and Biosecurity (DAB), Animal Industry Division (AID) is requesting proposals for a review and strategy development for advancing the genetic improvement of aquaculture species in Hawai’i. This Project will conduct a detailed review of genetic improvement methodologies and their benefit to aquaculture breeding programs, assess the status of aquaculture in Hawai’i, and deliver actionable recommendations and a strategic framework for implementing genetic improvement programs, with special emphasis on species of priority. Additionally, it will identify policy, infrastructure, and resource gaps that may limit the adoption of modern genetic technologies and provide a roadmap for continued development.
