The IBHUCC will implement and operate a model for the delivery of integrated behavioral health services as an addition to a proposed or existing urgent care clinic for individuals who are experiencing challenges with mental health and co-occurring disorders (mental illness together with substance use disorder) in Hilo, Hawaii, and/or the Leeward, Central, and Windward regions of Oahu. The integration of behavioral health services into urgent care settings aims to address accessibility gaps in crisis and behavioral health services by providing timely, accessible, and culturally appropriate mental health and substance use disorder care. Integrated behavioral health urgent care sites are being considered in the identified regions to provide 24/7 or extended-hour behavioral health services, crisis stabilization, short-term medication management, walk-in eligibility evaluations, telepsychiatry, care coordination and referral, and culturally informed and trauma-informed care.
