As part of its mission of providing an educated workforce for the counties of Newton, Dekalb, Rockdale and beyond, Georgia Piedmont Technical College (GPTC) regularly reaches out to community partners for input before starting new programs of investing in major projects. As a result of those conversations and knowing the need for healthcare workers in the growing communities served by GPTC, the College hopes to renovate an existing 4,000 sq ft building on its Newton County campus in located at located at 16200 Alcovy Road, Covington, Georgia 30014. The end result would be a simulated hospital and hands-on learning environment that would allow the college to train more than twice the number of students it can currently while expanding its program offerings in the much-needed allied health areas. 1. The Paramedicine program has been removed from the scope; a. Our healthcare partners have informed us that the current trend is to contract paramedicine services. And, contractors typically provide their own in-house training for employees. b. Considering the goals of the project, the Simulation Suite and other training areas have a much higher value as outlined below. 2. The Radiologic Tech program was condensed on the one-pager for visual formatting purposes. The following associated programs will also be included and will require more space than anticipated, replacing paramedicine technology. Additional imaging programs will also include the following: a. Cardiovascular Technology (24+ students); b. Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (24+ students); 3. Nursing will need two distinct learning spaces, one for RN and one for LPN. Enrollment is projected to be 50+ for LPN and 40 for RN. 4. Phlebotomy Technician program has been added. 5. The one-pager does not reflect the “building exterior modernization allowances” (attachment 2). The total projected allowance is $3M which is very healthy considering the size of the campus. Within that scope, I anticipated that the following would be accomplished: a. Modest exterior update on all three buildings (i.e. façade and paint) ; b. New entrance monument sign; c. Minor landscape update (i.e. tear out old growth foliage and install low-maintenance plants)
