Specifications include, but are not limited to: 1.01.2.1 Areas to be patched shall be neatly saw cut or milled to depth as indicated on patch schedule (Exhibit C) and patch detail drawing (Exhibit D). 1.01.2.2 All woody root material shall be excavated and removed to a depth of twelve inches below the finished grade of the road. 1.01.2.3 Subgrade and base material shall be replaced or installed and compacted in accordance with patch detail drawing (Exhibit D), and asphalt concrete placed and compacted in accordance with GDOT specifications. 1.01.2.4 All patches requiring excavation of sub-base shall be backfilled with graded aggregate base (GAB) compacted to 98% Modified Proctor, maximum dry density. 1.01.2.5 Around the perimeter of the repair, the sides shall be vertical and the corners shall be squared. The area shall be cleaned with brooms or blowers to remove loose material and shall have a uniform depth. 1.01.2.6 A tack coat shall be applied thoroughly and evenly to the excavated area and adjacent pavement edge prior to placement and compaction of the asphalt. 1.01.2.7 Place 12.5mm Superpave Asphaltic Concrete in uniform layers not to exceed a maximum of 2 ½ inches. Clean the surface of the preceding layer of compacted HMA before the succeeding layer of asphalt material is placed. Compaction shall be achieved with steel wheeled rollers to the extent possible. In areas too small to use a roller, a walk-behind plate compactor shall be used to compact each lift of asphalt. The surface shall be finished rolled with a steel wheeled roller to achieve required compaction.
