Specifications include, but are not limited to: Provide comprehensive arena assessments with appropriate team members and provide information to parents as well as support teachers; handle program needs through consultation, staff development and other functions with program and parent support. 1. Participate in comprehensive psycho-developmental arena assessments. (Full time is 5-7 evaluations/week; part time is 3-4 evaluations/week. The psychologist will act as the second member of a two-person evaluation team with the other permanent member being a Speech/Language Therapist. Additional team members may include, but are not limited to, the following: OT, PT, Social Worker, Diagnostician, DHH, Vision, etc. a. Review referral information and coordinate plans for evaluation. b. Choose and administer appropriate assessment instruments. c. Coordinate meetings to determine eligibility from arena results. d. Communicate test results and eligibility with parents. e. Develop written reports as assigned by supervisor. 2. Provide consultative services to parents and school personnel. a. Identify problems and develop appropriate intervention strategies. b. Work with parents on areas of behavior, parenting skills, and basic understandings of educational, social, and medical needs of their children. c. Provide observations of children in different environments as related to identified problems. d. Provide crisis intervention as requested. e. Participate in parent education groups as needed. f. Participate with team members in regularly scheduled team meetings at school sites. 3. Coordinate the special education eligibility process for new students. (Typically one week after the arena assessment.) a. Review referral, medical, and background data. b. Coordinate the review of assessment information. c. Conduct the eligibility meeting with appropriate staff following evaluation. 4. Communicate effectively with community agencies. a. Be aware of available, related services within the community and metro-Atlanta. b. Develop a network of professional contacts with pediatricians, hospitals, and other agencies serving children and families in the program. c. Be informed of the medical conditions of children in the program needing special attention. d. Act as the liaison for parents and community agencies as needed. 5. Conduct and/or contribute in staff development initiatives. a. Assist in needs assessment and develop appropriate presentations. b. Assist in conducting staff development for teachers, paraprofessionals, Speech Language Pathologists, and others involved in Pre-Kindergarten programs. 6. Participate in professional growth activities. a. Participate in departmental and/orsystem staff development activities. 7. Perform other duties as assigned.
