To establish a contract with agencies to provide dropout prevention services that includes, but is not limited to, course recovery, grade acceleration and other related wrapround services for students at Miami-Dade County Public Schools. M-DCPS is responsible for establishing a climate in the schools, which encourages learning and promotes the health and welfare of students enrolled. The M-DCPS Alternative Education Program provides a vehicle for cooperation between Miami-Dade County Community-Based Organizations and M-DCPS for the instruction of at-risk students. Community-Based Organizations who are funded through the M-DCPS Educational Alternative Outreach Program will be funded at a minimum of 80% of the Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) per school year including Summer Programs. Virtual courses will be funded on successful course completion or credits earned. Community-Based Organizations work with both the Department of Juvenile Justice and with M-DCPS as mandated by the State of Florida. Other Community-Based Organizations, with M-DCPS, provide Work Back Programs as part of the dropout prevention plans for keeping students in school during expulsion periods. Still other Community-Based Organizations, with M-DCPS, provide students new to our society and culture a more familiar educational environment from which they may more comfortably migrate into the educational mainstream.
