• Stand on Curb Edge on the side of the street where students approach • Wait for a small number of students if possible • Wait for a gap in traffic • Face closest oncoming traffic • Alert oncoming traffic • When safe, step off curb • After traffic stops, walk to the center of the street/stand at the edge of the crosswalk nearest the center of the intersection • Face opposite approaching traffic and alert opposite traffic as explained above • Confirm that all traffic has stopped • Instruct the students to cross • Wait in the roadway until all students have crossed the street • Walk back to the edge of the roadway • Remain on the curb for the next group of students • Stand on edge of road • As students gather, push the “Walk” button • Once the “Walk’ signal illuminates and it is safe to do so, utilize the same procedure as an un-signalized intersection to cross the students. • Do not start to cross students during the “Flashing Don’t Walk”. • For Divided Highway crossings guards must be aware of left & right turning vehicles
