The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Florida Forest Service is seeking sealed bids for the sale of timber. This sale is a fourth-row logger select thinning of approximately 262 acres of 19-year-old slash pine on Four Creeks State Forest (SFI Certified Forest #NSF-SFI-FM-C0245755) in Nassau County, Florida (see attached maps). Timber to be removed includes every fourth row and select trees in the remaining rows in order to reach 65-75 square feet of residual basal area per acre. Trees to be removed from the selection rows include diseased, damaged, defective, forked, and suppressed trees; followed by a portion of the intermediate and co-dominant trees to reach the desired basal area. Leave trees should be evenly spaced throughout the sale area. The target basal area per acre can be adjusted by the Forester-in-Charge as needed due to variations in stand and site conditions. Logging decks and skid trails must be approved by the Forester-in-Charge. Sale boundaries are roads, state forest boundaries, wetlands, or obvious timber type changes. The estimated volume to be removed is 12,673 tons of pine pulpwood and 4,691 tons of pine chip-n-saw and better.
