Specifications include, but are not limited to: The City of Winter Park is seeking bids for various sod turfs, installation, and services for various projects and slope coverage. Orders will be placed on an as-needed basis. Sod must: • be harvested in a manner that ensures a dense stand of live grass; • have a soil mat that adheres firmly to the roots to withstand all necessary handling; • reasonably free of weeds and other grasses; • be shaded and kept moist from the time harvested until delivery The source of the sod may be inspected and approved by the City`s designated representative prior to being cut for use in the work. After approval, the area from which the sod is harvested must be closely mowed and raked as necessary to remove excessive top growth and debris. Approved devices must be used to cut the sod, and due care must be exercised to keep the native root-soil intact. No sod which has been cut for more than 24 hours may be used unless specifically authorized by the City`s designated representative after inspection thereof. A letter of certification from the grassing Contractor as to when the sod was cut and what type must be provided to the City`s designated representative upon delivery of the sod to the job site upon request. Sod showing an appearance of extreme dryness after placement must be replaced within five days at no cost to the City. If MOT is required for a specific job it would be the responsibility of the awarded Contractor. Please note, this would be a very rare occasion. General service hours for the City are from approximately 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Monday through Friday. In the event of scheduling delays, the City requests Contractor to be available for nights and weekends. Installation Sodding shall not be performed by the Contractor when weather and soil conditions are, in the City`s designated representative`s opinion, unsuitable for proper results. • Cut Sod Turf: The sod must be placed on the prepared surface, with edges in close contact, and must be firmly and smoothly embedded by light tamping with appropriate tools. Lay sod to form a solid mass with tightly fitted joints. Butt ends and sides of sod strips. Do not overlay edges—stagger strips to offset in adjacent courses. Remove excess sod to avoid smothering of adjacent grass. Provide sod pad top flush with adjacent curbs, sidewalks, drains, and pavement. Place subsequent rows parallel to and tight against previously installed row. Tamp or roll with dual steel drum roller to ensure contact with sub-grade soil. If sodding is used in drainage ditches, the pieces` setting must be staggered to avoid a continuous seam along the line of flow. Along the edges of such staggering areas, the offsets of individual strips must not exceed six inches. To prevent erosion caused by vertical edges at the outer limits, the outer pieces of sod must be tamped to produce a feathered effect. Contractor must be responsible for ground "sod" staples when determined by the City`s designated representative. • Rolled Turf: Installation by pneumatic wheel installer only. Track equipment is not to be used for installation. Ground Preparation Contractor is responsible for ground preparation prior to installation. Ground preparation includes but is not limited to removal of existing turf, weeds, debris, ground feathering, and/or final level grade. The City is responsible for watering sod after installation. City will provide the location for the dumping of debris. Should a situation arise, any additional costs related to debris disposal must be a pass-through cost to be paid directly by the City. Delivery Contractor delivery and installation of sod must be within fourteen (14) days after notification of order. In the event of inclement weather, schedules may be modified. Staging and logistics will be addressed prior to delivery. The City intends to purchase a large quantity of sod immediately following the award of this contract.
