The City of Port Orange is seeking bids to harvest and sell timber from a select harvest, thin listed below. The timber is on approximately 50 acres off Shunz Road located in Port Orange, Florida. The location of the sale is shown on the attached exhibit. • The contractor will be responsible for all costs associated with cutting, removing, transporting, and sale of timber from City property. The goal is to thin the forested portions of the property, not total clearing. • The bid and sale price will be based on a per ton basis. A sequentially numbered, three-part, load ticket security system with a lock box shall be used with this sale for timber accountability. • The harvester shall select suppressed or poorly formed trees leaving potential pole timber undamaged. The target basal area shall be 60 square feet per acre. • All timber shall be severed as low to the ground as practical, and all stumps shall be cut five (5) inches or less in height above the original ground line. • Trees may not be left hanging on other trees. • Roads shall be inspected daily and left free of treetops and limbs. • All litter resulting from the logging operation must be removed from the woods, fires are prohibited. • Loggers are prohibited from carrying firearms and/or hunting on the property. • No cypress or hardwood is included in this sale excepting loblolly bay. Oaks are to be protected. • Harvest areas are subject to wet conditions. In order to prevent damage to the residual stand, harvesting may be suspended under wet conditions. Upon the contractor’s request, wet weather harvesting extensions may be granted by the City with a written wet weather harvesting authorization. • Each bidder must provide at least two references from past thinning operations accomplished within the past two years. • This timber sale may be expanded to additional acres at the City’s sole discretion.
