The X-ray fluorescence (XRF) Method is the approved method to test cementitious materials as per FDOT’s AASHTO accreditation. The Department routinely tests samples from projects, source approvals, and Cement and Concrete Reference Laboratory (CCRL) proficiency samples required to maintain accreditation. Failure to perform proper maintenance on the instrument will compromise data accuracy and will also lead to delays in sample test schedules. In addition to cementitious materials, the instrument is used to analyze several materials used for highway construction and traffic control, including forensic analysis. Results are used by the Department to approve cementitious materials sources and APL products approvals. The Department requires a XRF Service Agreement for the Zetium equiment which provides the following: Efforts to provide 48 hour on site response during normal business hours, spare parts coverage (excluding consumables, tubes, and e-ray detectors), unlimited corrective maintenance calls, phone support during regular business hours, labor and travel during regular business hours, two preventative maintenance calls per year within the contract period, remote support for hardware/software and remote support for applications.
