Specifications include, but are not limited to: Broward County (County), through its Parks and Recreation Division, has a long-term lease with a private concessionaire for the operation of the Butterfly World attraction/concession at Tradewinds Park located in Coconut Creek, Florida. Tradewinds Park is a regional park with a variety of active and passive park amenities. The Butterfly World concession is is a popular tourist and educational attraction. The County’s objective is to continue to provide the public with a high quality attraction at the site, preferably the same type of attraction. Continuing this park attraction, as presently operated or similarly operated, will provide a valued service to the public and provide revenues to the Concessionaire and the County. Butterfly World is a renowned attraction providing an entertaining amenity to park patrons, at an additional admission cost. Butterfly World is open seven days a week, 362 days a year (closed on Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas). Butterfly World also caters to groups, hosts events, and provides tours. Inside Butterfly World is a research lab, Insectarium, aviaries, museum, snack bar concession and gift shop. Part and parcel to the present operation is the rearing of butterflies and selling plants that attract butterflies (plants known to be invasive to the State of Florida cannot be sold to the general public). The facility also contains a walled storage area. Butterfly World is a mostly enclosed, self-contained facility, and the area under the lease agreement is approximately 2.75 acres. Parking is nonexclusive and shared with other park amenities. The lease between the County and current Concessionaire is set to expire in March 2018.
