Escambia County is seeking the services of a licensed marine contractor with dredging experience to dredge the entryway of Lafitte Cove Canal. The contractor is to mechanically dredge within the permitted 200’ x 65’ area to -5.0’ Mean Low Water at the entrance of Lafitte Cove Canal (See attached ACOE and FDEP permits for exact dredge area). The estimated dredged quantity per dredge event is approximately 800 cubic yards. The dredged material is to be transported to an upland site located south of Pensacola Beach Blvd. Water Towers (See attached Dredge Site and Dredge transport Site Maps). Dredging work shall begin on the Eastern portion of dredge area and proceed towards the West in order to achieve desired results of maintaining the channel without exceeding total amount of sediment to be removed. With County approval, the contractor is to dredge the canal entryway within the permitted area two to three times per year (as deemed necessary by Escambia County to maintain channel navigability within permit and budget limitations). The months in which to dredge will be determined at the time of contractor selection; however, the anticipated months are approximately February, July-August, and October-November (if necessary) of each year within the contractual length of service. Unless absolutely necessary to maintain navigation within Lafitte Cove Canal, dredging shall be avoided when shorebirds are nesting within the dredge material discharge site. No Work may be performed during protected shorebird nesting season (spring-summer months.)
