The Chloride Auto-titration system is a set of instruments used for testing chloride content in concrete and cementitious materials. The current system being used by FDOT cannot perform certain functions to support updates to the test method to comply with the Florida Method of Test, FM 5-516. Additionally, the current system is reaching the end of its service life. The new system has the functionality to perform all the tasks needed to carry out Florida Method of Test, FM 5-516 for determining low-levels of chloride in concrete and raw materials. The system has the capability to accommodate a sufficient number of 180 milliliter beakers to maximize efficiency and performance. In addition, the system has the built-in controls that allow the titrator to independently determine the proper solution strength to use for titration. This built-in logic allows for the system to run fully automatic so that testing can be performed after the laboratory employee has left for the day or allows them to perform other tasks during their normal work schedule. This will significantly increase the number of tests that can be performed and improve the accuracy and repeatability of the testing by removing the human variability associated with a manual testing method.
