MDCR is looking for proposers with significant jail design experience. The County will build a new complex at Metro West Detention Center (next to the existing facility) that will house approximately 2,000 inmates. This action will not only allow the County to close the aging Pre-Trial Detention Center (PTDC) but will also address modern standards for inmate medical and mental health, suicide prevention, and rehabilitative programs. This is part of a once in many generations opportunity to build a more humane justice system that includes facilities grounded in dignity and respect, The scope of work includes assessment of the current Metro West Detention Center correctional facility for seamless integration with the construction of a new complex. The upcoming complex will include cell configurations that incorporate individual cells for segregation and multiple occupancy cells that are proportional to the jail population’s genders and custody levels. The configuration must consider requirements across the entire jail system population, not just the new facility. Additionally, the new facility must incorporate spaces that will offer medical services for urgent care, support services, and parking facilities for both employees and visitors, as well as 2 (two) Video Court Rooms.
