This construction project involves the phased expansion of an existing two-lane roadway into a four-lane divided roadway over an approximate length of 5.60 total miles. The project will be completed in two phases. Phase 1A begins at SW 90th Street and extends approximately 0.25 mile north of SW 80th Street (1.47 miles). Phase 1B begins at SW 80th Street and extends north to approximately 0.50 mile north of SW 38th Street (4.13 miles). In addition to widening the existing roadway to four lanes with a divided median, there will be associated improvements to intersections for improved traffic flow and pedestrian access. Key elements of the project include the installation of new travel lanes with a divided median, new traffic signals, roundabouts, curb and gutter, pavement striping, enhanced safety and navigation signage, and landscaping. This project will add a multimodal infrastructure to include a 12-foot-wide shared-use path for bicycles and pedestrians, plus a 5-foot-wide concrete sidewalk. The multimodal trail will connect to an existing multimodal trail in some segments. Stormwater management is a critical component of the project. This project includes the expansion of existing drainage retention areas (DRAs), the construction of new DRAs, the removal of existing stormwater structures, the installation of stormwater structures and piping to control runoff and comply with regulatory requirements.
