Specifications include, but are not limited to: This is a one-year contract with the option of two twelve-month renewals that consists of marking and cruising timber on 500 to 600 acres annually, but there is no guarantee this amount of acreage will be available each year. The District budgeted $44,000 for timber marking this fiscal year and will consider budgeting this amount annually for the next two years. The project will consist of marking stands for second and third thinnings. This project will not involve marking pine plantations for first thinning. All stands selected for marking will have been previously row thinned. Each year the District’s Forester will select stands for marking with consideration for understory density and accessibility. The District will mow/drum chop old cut rows within stands determined too dense for reasonable accessibility. The following factors will determine accessibility: time since last prescribed burn, height and continuity of vegetation, type of vegetation, and presence of vines. Each year before work commences the District’s Forester and contractor will agree upon the accessibility of stands selected for marking. The timber marking work could be located within any of the 22 conservation areas listed in Appendix A.
