Project Description: This project involves construction activities for the Enfield Railroad Station Improvements extending from mile post (MP) 53.7 to MP 54.4 of the Springfield Line in Enfield, CT. The proposed activity will take place within and immediately adjacent to the New Haven to Springfield railroad corridor right-of-way. The project consists of construction of railbed, bridge, and drainage improvements to support realignment of existing track and a new gauntlet track, improvements to existing culverts, site grading improvements, and construction of retaining walls. In addition, there will be construction to demolish existing Asnuntuck St Bridge and fill the arch structure. The selected construction firm shall perform the following project work: • Conduct Clearing, Grubbing, Earthwork, and Grading. • Conduct site dewatering. • Install and maintain temporary sediment and erosion control measures. • Conduct exploratory test pits. • Demo and excavate abutments for existing Main St Bridge. • Construct new Main St Bridge substructure, superstructure, and approach slabs. • Replace culvert at MP 53.90. • Install new culverts at MP 54.17 and MP 54.30. • Replace sanitary sewer crossing at ~MP 54.30. • Abandon in place existing culvert at MP 53.90. • Install barricades and signage to permanently close Asnuntuck St. • Install temporary traffic controls for Main St Bridge and River Rd. • Install road base, HMA, curbing, and drainage outfall for turnaround at Asnuntuck St. • Demo a portion Asnuntuck St Bridge superstructure, fill arch structure, backfill and construct embankment, and drainage work. • Install Track 2 drainage features and swales (Asnuntuck St to MP 54.30). • Install subgrade, geogrid, sub ballast, and ballast to 4” below bottom of tie for future Track 2 (MP 53.7 to MP 54.4). • Install Track 1 subballast (Asnuntuck St to Main St). • Install sheeting, shoring, and support for excavation. • Construct new soldier pile and lagging retaining walls (MP 53.95 E and MP 53.95W). • Excavate, haul, and dispose earth and rock spoils. • Remove waste and surplus material and dispose per regulatory requirements. • Manage and maintain waste stockpile area(s). • Submit engineering construction submittals and site-specific safety work plans. • Install temporary water handling measures. • Install temporary access roads as shown on the plans. • Install underground conduit casings for future power, express, and fiber optic cables. • Install conduit bridge attachment at Main St Bridge. • Furnish and install communications and signals handholes. • Construct, maintain, and restore temporary laydown area(s). • Coordinate and assist with installation of new or relocated utilities with public and private utility companies adjacent to project. • Provide temporary protection and support of existing Amtrak signal, communication, and power as needed or shown on plans. • Perform trench conduit excavation and furnish and install borrow material as shown on plans.
