Specifications include, but are not limited to: 1. DEMOLITION Front a. Demolish original reinforced concrete slab and base at truck entrance from 49th Street as shown on SK #1. b. It is unknown whether or not there is a gravel base. It should be assumed that there is no gravel base and that a new base will be needed. Gravel base shall be a minimum of 4-inches in thickness. Compact existing soil base, as needed. c. Remove flagpole and temporarily store on site. Coordinate with DGS Project Manager. d. Demolish concrete base at flagpole. Rear a. Demolish existing chain link fence system and pair of gates on the west side of the rear parking area. 2. NEW INSTALLATION a. Provide signed/sealed engineered concrete slab drawings by structural engineer currently registered in the District of Columbia. b. Provide new sub-base to support structural concrete slab and operations of DC FEMS equipment. c. Furnish and install driveway with minimum 5,000 psi high strength concrete reinforced with #3 rebar 18 inches on center in a grid pattern, welded wire mesh, crushed stone, adequate soil compaction, and dowels tied into existing concrete slab in engine house. Concrete driveway is to be designed to adequately support fire engine house emergency vehicles and equipment that weigh up a minimum thirty-one (31) tons. Contractor to verify engineering required for concrete driveway system. d. New concrete slab will be approximately 69’-0” x 49’-8”. Dimensions must be field verified. It is not known what the existing slab thickness and reinforcement is. e. Replacement slab is based on ASTM C1782 for concrete paving slabs. f. Saw cut control joints ¼-inch depth of slab. See drawings for layout. g. Provide isolation joints at existing concrete slab and street. See drawings for layout. h. Provide silicone sealant at control and isolation joints. i. Replace concrete flagpole reinforced concrete base in kind. Provide 3/4-inch chamfers. Prep steel flagpole and remove all rust. Repaint flagpole with zinc chromate paint. j. At the rear of the engine house, replace existing chain link fence system and pair of gates on 48th Place. New fence and two (2) gate pairs to generally follow design of existing system. The existing chain link fence system on the south side of the parking area is to remain. Install two (2) new DC FEMS personnel only signs at 18”x18” on rear parking lot.
