Specifications include, but are not limited to: C.2.1.1 The primary goal of the Contractor’s education program shall be to provide a qualityeducation for youth committed to the DYRS custody and care. The program shall bedesigned not only to raise students’ scores as measured by assessments approved by the District of Columbia State Education Agency, but more importantly, to increase the likelihood that students leaving the Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services’ custody and care will return to their communities and engage in productive activities to complete high school, obtain and maintain employment,engage invocational training or post-secondary education, or obtain a General Education Development (GED) Certificate.C.2.1.2 The Contractor shall deliver its education program to male and female youth, who are in committed status who are either admitted to the Youth Service Center program or awaiting placement to an alternate program that can better meet their needs. Approximately half of the youth involved in educational programming will have an Individualized Education Plan. The site at the Youth Service Center will be furnished by the District as described Section H.15. C.2.1.3 The Contractor shall be accredited by the Commission on Secondary Schools, Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, Applicable Document #2. The Contractor shall follow the accreditation process delineated in the Commission on Secondary Schools Policies and Procedures Handbook, as evidenced by activities such as convening an internal accreditation team, developing plans to meet accreditation standards, submitting initial application for candidacy, creating teams and timelines, documenting updates to staff, board and other stakeholders, pre-site visits preparation, accreditation plans, preparation for validation visit and responding to recommendations of site visit teams A pplicable Document #3 in accordance with the following timelines: C.2.1.4 The Contractor shall deliver the education program year-round, Mondays through Fridays f rom 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. The lengths and periods for core academic instruction that includes the elective coursework and vocational training, and the summer school program provided by theContractor shall be consistent with the school sessions of the District of Columbia Public School (DCPS) school calendar year (Applicable Document #1), e xcept as otherwise determined by prior approval of the DYRS Program Manager for Educationand Workforce Development and Contract Administrator (CA). C.2.1.5 The Contractor shall develop a School calendar that also includes staff in-service training and holidays.
