The research team shall develop a Conceptual Framework for Accessible Cycle Facility Design that integrates findings from Phase I with key strategies and provides recommendations for policies and programs to support state DOTs in designing accessible cycling facilities. This framework will inform the following tasks: Field research–Conduct field interviews with older cyclists and cyclists with disabilities, including those interested but concerned, to evaluate existing cycling facilities, identify barriers to entry (physical, environmental, economic, etc.), document cycling equipment use, and explore potential pilot implementations. Facility types and situations (selected based on Phase I results) shall be used to examine specific needs, barriers, and potential design solutions in greater detail.
