Specifications include, but are not limited to: Task 1. Survey state DOTs, members of the National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO), and, if appropriate, other agencies to locate innovative design manuals and standards. Task 2. Review domestic and international literature for potential Part IV content. This review should address all modes of travel. ; ask 3. Synthesize approaches for organizing the Part IV context chapters (Chapters 14-19). Evaluate those approaches based on several criteria, including (1) clarity of the organization; (2) treatment of the road’s functional class; (3) placement of material related to pedestrians, bicyclists, transit, and freight; (4) usefulness to different audiences (e.g., designers, planners, local stakeholders); and (5) alignment with how state and local agencies organize their design standards ; Task 4. Present the project plan and the Task 3 approaches to the AASHTO Technical Committee on Geometric Design at their summer 2020 meeting to obtain feedback on the scope and organization of the Part IV chapters. Task 5. Submit an interim report by September 2020, summarizing the work done in Tasks 1-4 and including an annotated Part IV outline, format and presentation examples, and a process for resolving conflicts among sources. The annotated outline should clearly identify references to material expected to be included in Parts I-III of the GB8 and to external sources.
