All correspondence must be made through the Vendor Portal. Specifications include, but are not limited to: 1. Prepare the surface of the deck, approach slab and sidewalks in accordance with the Standard Specification section 613.3.B. 2. Once clean, seal cracks in the deck, approach slab and sidewalks. Seal visible cracks and tight construction joints with methacrylate concrete sealer. Seal cracks in accordance with the standard specifications. After the sealing is complete, the sealer should be visible at the top of the void, completely filling the void, bonding the void to keep moisture out and protecting the concrete. 3. There are several methods of sealing cracks and surfaces identified in this contract. The following Item Numbers will be used as noted in Table 1 - Sealing Requirements for Decks, Table 2 - Sealing Requirements for Approach Slabs and Table 3 - Sealing Requirements for Sidewalks. • 613002 – Silane Based Concrete Sealer will be applied to completely cover and seal most decks, approach slabs and sidewalks. Silane is not used to seal cracks in concrete. • 613003 – High Molecular Weight Methacrylate Concrete Sealer will be applied in a flood coat where extensive surface cracking is present. In these areas, 613002 is not applied. • 628011 – Crack Sealing Decks will be applied and paid for by the linear foot (LF) to seal isolated cracks. • 504001 – Mastic will be used to seal wide cracks and joints. 4. For larger construction joints, seal the joint with a hot applied mastic concrete sealer in the areas specified by the Engineer. The mastic shall be a polymer-modified asphalt, aggregate filled repair material specifically engineered to fill wide cracks and joints. This will be paid for under Item Number 504001 Crack and Joint Sealing Less Than ¾-Inch Wide. 5. Section 504.2 Materials, of the Standard Specification is revised as follows: Crack and joint sealer shall be a hot applied mastic sealer. Mastic shall be a polymer-modified asphalt, aggregate filled repair material specifically engineered to fill wide cracks and joints. Material shall meet ASTM Specification D8260, standard specification for hot-applied, aggregate-filled, polymer-modified asphalt pavement repair mastic. 6. The sealant used for the deck, approach slabs and sidewalks shall be applied at a rate recommended by the Manufacturer. It will be applied uniformly and completely to cover the surfaces as specified in Item Number 613002 – Silane-Based Concrete Deck Sealer. All grooves or indentations need to also have excess sealant removed. 7. Trash, rubbish, debris, and brush shall be removed within the project limits and shall be incidental to initial expense. 8. During the cleaning operation, the Contractor shall protect/shield all striping and pavement markings, which will remain in place. When applying the sealant, the Contractor shall apply it directly on existing striping and pavement markings.
