Specifications include, but are not limited to: The City of West Haven will receive CT State grant funding for a new school to be constructed on the same site as the existing 61,000sf school, which will be completely demolished. The school community will be relocated offsite for the duration of construction. The new building will not exceed 61,048sf in size as measured inside the exterior walls, with just over 47,000sf on the first floor, and just under 13,700sf on the second floor. The building surrounds an exterior courtyard at the center of the school. The Gymnasium, Cafetorium (Cafeteria with performance platform) and Media Center all face the central courtyard. A two-story academic wing, approximately 30 feet high, sits along Brown Street to the north. New exterior wall system assemblies will include: Cold-form metal framing (CFMF) insulated with at least 4 inches of closed cell spray-foam insulation serving as back-up for brick veneer, gypsum sheathing and a continuous air and water barrier applied to the outside of framing; and 3 inches of XPS extruded polystyrene insulation. Concrete masonry unit (CMU) backup will be used in lieu of CFMF at stairways, the Gymnasium, Cafeteria and service spaces. The majority of the roof system shall be a fully adhered, 60 mil internally reinforced EPDM system with a 20-year warranty and at least 4 inches of polyisocyanurate insulation. The roof and associated structure shall be designed to accept a ballasted solar panel system weighing at least 10 psf. Roof surfaces will pitch to drain at minimum of ¼-inch per foot. Accent areas designed with steeper slopes will have metal roofing. R-value of building envelope components will be determined in conjunction with evaluation of HVAC and building energy modeling. Since this a completely new building, all systems will be technologically current. HVAC systems will rely on VRF complemented by tempered DOAS systems. In addition to energy-efficient mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, the building will include a fire suppression system throughout, along with stateof-the art IT infrastructure, technology and security systems.
