Specifications include, but are not limited to: This specification prescribes the composition, storage, inspection, acceptance and delivery of salt obtained from natural deposits/artificially produced, which is to be used for snow and ice control on highways and bridges. Requirements: 1. All salt will conform to AASHTO M 143 (ASTM D—632) Type 1, with the exceptions and additions stated herein. 2. When salt is not in stated herein, and the Client Agency formally agrees to accept such salt, payment reduction will apply and will be the sum of the individual reductions based on the bid price. Vendor’s Stockpiles: 1. At the vendor’s location, the stockpile will be covered to protect salt from moisture and other environmental conditions. 2. Salt from different origins (natural deposits/artificially produced) will be stockpiled separately. Salt Acceptance: 1. PURITY: The salt requirements for salt acceptance will be as stated in AASHTO M—143 (ASTM D—632) Type 1. Except sections 9.1.2 and 11.2 will not apply. 2. Contractor shall provide salt with a sodium chloride content of 95.0 percent or greater. The Client Agency, at its discretion, may reject or accept salt having a purity of less than 95.0 percent sodium chloride content. If the Client Agency accepts salt having a purity of less than 95.0 percent sodium chloride content, the Client Agency may apply a payment reduction in the amount set forth in Table 1 corresponding to the percent of sodium chloride in the salt.
