This walkway will connect three critical pieces of the Civic Center National Historic Landmark; Civic Center Park, Veterans Memorial Park and the Colorado State Capitol. The design will become an iconic representation and celebration of Colorado’s first 150 years and looking towards the future. Design elements should evoke Colorado’s diverse cultures, people, history, landscapes and sustainability. This walkway will enhance the existing historic site and provide a safe connector through some of the most iconic public spaces in Colorado. Architectural design services include leading a Design Advisory Group, with a select group of participants through the entire design process. This would begin with initial concept and program plan development. The design team must develop a stakeholder engagement plan and community outreach strategy. The design team will then present to those various stakeholders to further enhance community involvement and ensure that the concept is inclusive. Stakeholder groups may include and are not limited to the State Capitol Building Advisory Committee, Denver’s Landmark Preservation Commission, Denver Parks, Department of Transportation and Denver City Council. Once the initial concept is accepted, the Architect will continue the design process through Schematic Design, Design Development and Construction Documents. Throughout the process, there will be community and stakeholder updates, interviews and presentations to share the design progress and solicit community feedback. A third party cost estimator will be required at the Conceptual phase and until the CMGC is on board. The construction budget and schedule will be solidified at that time. The design team will then collaborate with the CMGC to deliver a design that is within budget (GMP) and achieves the project goals and expectations.
