This work consists of fabricating, galvanizing and furnishing structural steel members, bearing blocks, and shim plates as designated in the plans and transporting materials to designated stockpile locations.
Fabrication Notes:
All structural steel for the HSS sister beams and bearing blocks shall conform to the requirements of ASTM A500 Grade B/C.
All shim plates shall conform to the requirements of AASHTO M270 Grade 50.
All holes shall be drilled standard size. Punching bolt holes full size and flame cutting holes are not permitted.
All HSS sister beams, bearing blocks, and shim plates shall be galvanized after fabrication. See Revision of Section 509.
Drill holes prior to galvanizing.
Camber tolerance is ±1/8".
All structural steel shall comply with the Federal and State Buy America and Certificates of compliance requirements as outlined in the CDOT Standards for Road and Bridge Construction, 2023 Edition and Standard specification revisions.
Supplier shall coordinate all required Buy America and Certificate of Compliance documentation with the Project Manager prior to delivery. Contact Information is listed below:

Suggested Sister Beam Fabrication Procedure:
Produce HSS shapes required
Cut production lengths to the girder lengths appropriate for each structure
Camber the girder-length HSS as specified in the plans
Drill holes
Galvanize
Clearly mark all finished HSS segments to indicate top of girder, and girder length.
