The City intends to select one or more non-profit entities to receive a donation of a historic boxcar, or parts of the historic boxcar. While current options for this structure would not result in the restoration of this 1909 boxcar, we believe salvage for a non-profit working to restore a boxcar of this type may be a viable option. The salvaging of this boxcar will prevent important items from going to the landfill. As a result of this RFEI, the City desires to donate the entire boxcar, or portions of the boxcar, to a not-for-profit organization whose goal is to restore or repurpose such materials for historic preservation purposes. City staff will evaluate the proposed use of the donated boxcar, or parts of the boxcar, to determine which proposition is most advantageous to the City with consideration given to the best ability to preserve the boxcar’s historical value. The evaluation team will present a recommendation to the Purchasing and Contracts Manager, who will ultimately determine whether to make the donation as prescribed in the Longmont Municipal Code, 4.12.070(B)(2).
