Description

The Boulder community has a strong focus on clean energy and efficiency. The City of Boulder currently owns, maintains, operates, and manages more than 4,400 streetlights in the city that were acquired from Xcel Energy in October 2024. These streetlights are fed electricity from Xcel Energy and take service on either the ESL, MSL, or MI rate. These streetlights purchased from Xcel Energy are primarily comprised of 70-400W High Pressure Sodium and Metal Halide lamps. There are a mixture of wood and metal poles for streetlights. The streetlights acquired are both standalone streetlights and on Xcel Energy owned distribution poles (which are to be permanently separated within 8 years of the acquisition).
