Description

The Poncha Pass Douglas-fir Beetle Suppression Project will deliver 142 acres of forest health restoration and hazardous fuels reduction in Chaffee County, Colorado. The dry-mixed conifer forests in the Poncha Pass area have been decimated by a combination of western spruce budworm and Douglas-fir beetle. The project area includes several patches of Douglas-fir beetle related mortality, and significant current beetle infestation. The project’s primary goal is to remove Douglas-firs actively infested with bark beetles to reduce population size. Additional goals are to remove trees standing dead and significantly defoliated from budworms to restore stands to desirable conditions. This project may include traditional timber harvest, mastication, and handwork to achieve the stated goals.

More details pertaining County portion of the Request for Proposal (RFP) are available on the County’s website at www.chaffeecounty.org or from Beth Helmke at the County Administration Office. Questions regarding this RFP's specifications should be directed to James Frantz at James.Frantz@colostate.edu. CSFS and Chaffee County will keep all proposals and material confidential until bid opening, at which time they become subject to public disclosure.
