3302-23 - Gateway High School Instructional Partner

Gateway High School is currently in its fifth year as a Turnaround school on Colorado’s state accountability clock.  As such, data gained through district and school learning walks and classroom observations indicates that Tier I instruction is the primary area of need for Gateway.  These findings were affirmed by the State Review Panel, which visited Gateway in November of 2022 and February of 2023.  Both entities found that the level of rigor and expectations in Gateway’s classrooms was below grade level expectations and insufficiently engaged students in achieving the learning outcomes.  Gateway teachers need to raise their level of student expectations and acquire the tools necessary to engage and motivate students to meet expectations.  

Gateway has conducted focus groups of students, staff and community members to inform the writing of an Innovation Plan to be submitted to the Colorado Board of Education for consideration.  The results of the focus groups clearly identified Gateway students’ lack of purpose and direction as the primary barrier to class and school engagement.  The plan details Gateway’s commitment to experiential learning and well-defined pathways as viable solutions to identified student engagement concerns.  

Gateway is seeking an instructional partner to support school administration and instructional coaches/leaders in developing and implementing an instructional framework that will ensure the rigor of the standard is carried through the planning and implementation of the lesson as well as assigned tasks, assessments and student work product.  Gateway intends to implement a robust instructional coaching model in the 2023-24 school year and seeks to base the instructional coaching on a clearly defined instructional framework.
