Specifications include, but are not limited to: Recent structural evaluations have indicated that the building has a Seismic Performance Level (SPL) Rating of V, which does not meet University of California minimum requirements. The concrete shear wall building has discontinuous shear walls. In portions of the building, the supporting beams and columns supporting shear walls lack sufficient transverse reinforcing. In other portions, the supporting columns lack sufficient confinement. A preliminary approach to the retrofit has been developed and will be shared with short-listed teams. It is anticipated that the seismic improvements will require that portions of Murphy Hall are vacated. The development of the structural scope will be done concurrently with a program assessment in order to coordinate an efficient work sequence. The selected team will work with the campus to evaluate long-term uses in Murphy, identify relocation strategies for administrative departments, and recommend implementation options.
