Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Police Department has established a goal of hiring two hundred (200) police officers per year for the next several years to obtain a budgeted strength of 2,040 sworn officers.In accordance with the minimum requirements set forth by the State of California's Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST), peace officer candidates should be found free of mental or emotional conditions that would affect their ability to perform law enforcement duties, as determined by a qualified psychologist or physician, pursuant to California Government Code section 1031(f). The psychological evaluation will be conducted as part of a comprehensive background investigation and is designed to determine the applicant’s suitability to become a Police Officer, Police Reserve Officer or other Department member with the City of San Diego
